Suicide in Los Angeles: Debunking the Misinformation

In January 2022, on the 101 freeway in Los Angeles, an unidentified person died by suicide. A video of this tragic event began circulating on social media, falsely claiming that it was a migrant avoiding deportation in the United States. The audio of the video does not confirm that the person shouted the attributed phrases. Google's identification tool determined that the images were at least three years old.

In the video, a person is seen jumping from a bridge in Los Angeles. The accompanying caption claims that it is an undocumented Mexican trying to avoid arrest and subsequent deportation to Mexico. It is also said that the person shouted some words before jumping. In the images, a patrol car and police officers can be seen near the person at the edge of the bridge, with firefighters and a rescue air mattress located underneath.

It is important to highlight that the information spread on social media about this video is false. Fact-checking confirms that it was a suicide in January 2022 and not a migrant avoiding deportation. The video has gathered a considerable number of views, despite its content being distorted.
